A Singing Pianist for Reno & Lake Tahoe: Casino Events, Resort Parties and Mountain Weddings

James Michael Day playing piano for a crowd at a piano bar show

I've played Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, and planners on both sides of the hill ask me the same question: can a singing pianist from Northern California handle an event in Reno or up at Lake Tahoe? Yes, and it's some of my favorite work.

Why a solo singing pianist works so well in Reno and Tahoe

Casino ballrooms, resort lounges and lakeside venues all have the same challenge: a room full of people who just arrived, want to talk, and then want to have fun. A singing pianist covers both. I can keep the reception warm and conversational, drop the volume for dinner, and then turn the room into a sing-along once the drinks and the requests start flowing. One performer, one piano, one voice, and I bring a self-contained piano and sound setup that only needs power.

Events I play in Reno and Lake Tahoe

  • Casino and resort corporate events: conference receptions, client dinners, hosted bars and awards nights, including corporate work at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno.
  • Holiday parties: December books up early in Reno and Tahoe, so if you're planning a company party, reach out soon.
  • Mountain and lakeside weddings: ceremony prelude, processional, cocktails and dinner, with your first-dance song learned and arranged in my style. I've played 500+ weddings, including one at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, so I know how to follow a timeline.
  • Private parties: birthdays, anniversaries and cabin get-togethers where your guests pick the setlist.

You can see the full list on my services page, including more about my corporate event work at Atlantis Reno and casino, lounge and resort shows.

A request-driven set, not a playlist

I've been playing since I was 8, and I'm a former San Jose Sharks organist (500+ NHL games, plus the NHL All-Star Game), so reading a big room and keeping energy up is second nature. On piano, that means I play to the crowd in front of me: Gershwin and standards while people find their seats, then Billy Joel, Elton John, Journey, country and today's hits once guests start sending up requests.

Want more than one piano?

For a bigger party, two pianos and a full show work great in a casino or resort setting. That's Modern Dueling Pianos, the dueling piano show I co-founded. I can also add DJ/MC or signature piano karaoke to the same night.

Planning tips for a Reno or Tahoe event

  • Book early for winter: fall weekends and December dates go first.
  • Share your timeline and load-in details: casinos and resorts often have specific load-in doors and times, so send those along and I'll plan around them.
  • Send special songs ahead: a walk-in song, first dance or company anthem is easy to add with a little notice.
