A Wedding and Singing Pianist for San Jose and the South Bay

San Jose is where a lot of people first heard me play. As a former San Jose Sharks organist, I played 500+ NHL games at the arena downtown, plus the NHL All-Star Game. These days, most of my South Bay calls are for something quieter but just as important: a wedding, a company party or a milestone birthday where the couple or host wants live piano and real vocals instead of a playlist.
What a singing pianist brings to a South Bay wedding
A singing pianist covers more of your day than most people expect. One performer, one piano, one voice, and the music can move from soft and elegant to a full-room sing-along without a band change.
- Ceremony: prelude while guests find their seats, then your processional and recessional, played live so the timing follows you, not a track.
- Cocktail hour and dinner: standards, Gershwin and love songs at conversation volume, with vocals when you want them.
- Your songs: a first dance or a family favorite, learned and arranged in my style.
- The party: Billy Joel, Elton John, Journey, Motown and today's hits once the requests start coming.
I've played 500+ weddings, so I know how to follow a timeline, work with your coordinator and keep things moving. You can see everything included on my wedding piano services page.
Where I play in the South Bay
I travel throughout San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Campbell, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino, Morgan Hill and Gilroy. Winery estates in the foothills, hotel ballrooms downtown, backyard ceremonies and office event spaces all work. I bring a self-contained piano and sound setup, so most venues only need to give me power and a flat spot.
Not just weddings
The same setup works for corporate events and holiday parties, from a client dinner to a team celebration, and for private parties like anniversaries and big birthdays. If your crowd likes to sing, I can add signature piano karaoke, and for a bigger party there's Modern Dueling Pianos, the two-piano show I co-founded.
A few tips for planning live piano in the South Bay
- Book early for spring and fall: Saturdays in wedding season and December party dates go first.
- Ask your venue about sound limits: many outdoor and residential venues have curfews or volume rules. A singing pianist is a great fit because I can keep the energy up without overpowering the room.
- Send your must-play songs ahead: a few weeks' notice is plenty for a first dance or a special request.
If you want a broader overview first, my planner's guide to hiring a singing pianist in Northern California walks through the options. You can also catch me live up the Peninsula at Faith & Spirits in San Carlos on Oct 30, Nov 6 and 7, and Dec 4 and 5.
